The recent Noel O’Callaghan Fundraising event, held in Curraheen Park, Cork proved an outstanding success, with the community of Ballyporeen coming together to raise funds for one of their own.

Established to raise money to go towards customising transport for local man Noel O'Callaghan, who suffered a major stroke two years ago, thanks were this week extended to those from near and far who put their shoulder to the wheel and became involved.

‘GOODWILL AND GENEROSITY’

A spokesperson for the committee, this week told The Avondhu, “From January, the committee began formulating ideas towards raising monies. The end result of the deliberations culminated in a fantastic night at Curraheen Park. All involved were absolutely overwhelmed with the goodwill and generosity shown by so many.

“From race sponsors, those who purchased dogs, put ads in the programme, provided prizes, made donations, bought tickets and attended the night itself – the response was superb, beyond all expectations. The monies raised will enable the purchase of specialised transport, which can facilitate an on-board wheelchair and also hopefully, a motorised wheelchair, which may increase Noel’s independence down the line”.

The value entrance ticket equally gave patrons entry into a draw held in Ballyporeen Community Centre on Saturday, May 10, with some attractive prizes on offer.

"Many thanks also to who helped with the night of the big draw - Ballyporeen Community Council, Ballyporeen ICA, Seamus Hennessy and of course, special guest, John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer. The array of prizes on display was spectacular. Congratulations to all prize winners, which were detailed fully previously on The Avondhu,” the spokesperson concluded.
