Due to a number of health and safety concerns, Fermoy Municipal District have made budgetary provisions for 80 metres of crash barriers across from the Grotto at Glenreagh, Ballynoe. Furthermore, road signage and markings planned for the area are due to be installed within the coming weeks.

This follows a request by Councillor Frank O’Flynn at the September meeting of Fermoy Municipal District, who said there are safety issues here due to the popularity of the Grotto and the busy road it lies on.

“This is a beautiful Grotto in Glenreagh in Ballynoe, it’s very popular throughout the year with visitors,” Cllr O’Flynn said, adding that the Ballynoe to Conna road is ‘very busy’ at all times.

“I welcome the news that road signs are planned in this area, and also to put in an application for a crash barrier, as the people in the area are concerned,” he added.
