Ballyduff native Courtney Canning, who is well-known in the West Waterford/ East Cork drama circuit, has just proven that his talents also extend to the art of video production.

Courtney, who is assistant co-ordinator at the Macroom Youthreach Centre for Education, has just led his students to success at the 2014 Irish Cancer Society X-Hale Youth Awards in Dublin. The mid-Cork students competed with 46 other youth groups to take home the Best Overall and Best Online award for their video 'Nicotine Nation'.

Courtney said that their success is a reflection of the hard work which was put into the creation of the video. "We are absolutely delighted to have taken home the award for both best online and best overall video," he said. "It is a testament to the huge amount of work that the group put into the production of the video."

He also said that the creative team Daragh Martin, Angela Doherty and James Herlihy 'worked tirelessly' with the students during the making of the video, which showcases the harmful effects of smoking.

The X-Hale Film Festival is an Irish Cancer Society project in partnership with the National Youth Council of Ireland and encourages youth groups to play their part in helping to prevent young people from starting smoking.
