A further year long delay in providing the Irish Water treatment plant in Mitchelstown has been blasted by a local councillor, citing it as one of the causes of the housing crisis in the area. 

The State body emailed Councillor Deirdre O’Brien yesterday and told her that work would not commence now until 2022 at the earliest. 

Cllr O’Brien said: “This is totally unacceptable – that is another delay and it an absolute disgrace.”

The letter from Irish Water states that the problem is that the design phase needs more work – they were due to apply for planning in 2020.
