Family and friends of the late William Hughes were in the grounds of the Fermoy Catholic Men & Women’s Society of Ireland Hall last Sunday morning, to unveil a bench honouring the memory of the former mayor, councillor and community activist.

Special guest was William’s close friend, Helen White from Mitchelstown, who described William as an individual who worked tirelessly for the town of Fermoy and whose legacy would not be forgotten.

“William was someone who believed that determination, service and shared purpose could bring about lasting change. His deep attachment to Fermoy inspired him to preserve its history, character and stories – not simply for today, but as a gift to future generations”.
