There were wild celebrations in the National Lottery winners’ room today after a jubilant Cork woman was joined by her family as she collected a Lotto Match 5 + Bonus prize of €209,809 which she won in last Saturday’s draw.
When asked how she found out about her good fortune, the lucky Cork native replied, “My head was literally stuck in an oven! I was giving my oven a good clean on the Sunday morning when one of my housemates text me to tell me that a winning Lotto ticket was sold in the local shop.
“As soon as I saw the text, I just knew that it was me. I went straight down to the shop to have it checked and sure enough, I had the winning ticket,” she beamed.
The winning Quick Pick ticket was sold at JJ O’Driscoll’s Superstore on the Ballinlough Road in Cork city.
The Cork woman plans to enjoy the celebrations over the bank holiday weekend by celebrating with her family, her housemates and her close friends but her long-term focus is to purchase her dream house in Cork’s city centre.
She said: “I have literally been saving all of my life to buy a house and now this win finally gets me over the line in terms of a mortgage for my dream house in Cork city. I’m renting at the moment but I’ve been looking at houses within my price range over the past couple of months.
“Now however, I can finally buy my ideal home. I’m also
going to splash out on a new bike to get me to and from work,” she
laughed.
The National Lottery also announced that this weekend is extra special for
Lotto players across the country.
On top of the truly life-changing €8.5 million Lotto jackpot up for grabs, there is an additional €1 million guaranteed to be won with Saturday’s Lotto Plus Raffle draw.
The current Lotto jackpot has been rolling since Wednesday, June 12 and a potential winner of Saturday’s jackpot will become the 2nd biggest Lotto winner of the year after a Dublin syndicate scooped an incredible €10.2 million jackpot last February.
Normally, Lotto Plus raffle winners get €500, but this Saturday, each winner will receive between €8,000 and €12,500 extra, depending on the number of winners. What a way to celebrate the August bank holiday weekend!
Play in-store, online or by using the National Lottery app before 7:45pm on Saturday evening for your chance to win.
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language.
