When Pete Hill moved from West London to Coolagown a year ago, he wasn't so much leaving his roots as coming home to them. Pete's mother's family farmed around Lismore and Dungarvan in years gone by.

He's happy with the move with his partner Ruth and two young boys to lovely Coolagown and says his 6-year-old son has settled well into nearby Kilmagner national school.

Pete's a percussionist by profession, his drumming having taken him to Asia, Australia and throughout Europe. He's also a Meini cymbals artist.

He hosts drumming workshops at various events up and down the country and did so at the Young Scientist competition earlier this year. He performs his Brazilian dance rhythms at events including weddings. He's headlining at the Arthur's Day celebrations taking place in the Voodoo Rooms in Cork on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. Pete even takes his drumming to a care home in Cork for dementia patients, believing in the therapeutic value of music for such patients.

One of the most interesting propositions he's had though, is to run three days of drumming workshops at the Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois next week. The invitation to host the workshops for a group visiting from West Africa came from Africa Aid and the Department of Foreign Affairs. With harvest as the theme, Pete is working on some special West African harvest rhythms for the workshops.
