A drinking water quality report for 2022 issued by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) this week has highlighted continued issues for three drinking water supplies serving over 20,000 people in The Avondhu area. 

Although the EPA highlights that over 99% of results from 9,000 water samples taken nationally were compliant and that drinking water in Ireland as a whole is largely of good quality, problems in The Avondhu catchment contained in the report reveal that large areas are on the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL) for a variety of problems.

Over 21,000 people in the Mitchelstown North, Fermoy and Galtee Regional Supply areas are being supplied with water that the EPA has placed on ‘action’ lists.
