Kildorrery's Funcheon Vintage Club has announced the worthy beneficiary of their 2023 Annual Vintage Run which is set to take place on Sunday, September 10: the club will donate all the fundraising proceeds of the day to the underwater heroes of Blackwater Sub Aqua Search and Rescue (SAR).

Blackwater SAR, based in Fermoy, are a volunteer team of divers and experts who donate their time to search for those missing on the river, involved in the tragic work of recovering the bodies of those lost in accidents and drownings, as well as providing rescue services for events on the river, both on the Blackwater and nationwide.

They have been involved in over 250 operations since they were founded in 1981. Their heroic and often dangerous work is entirely supported by donations.

"We are delighted to have been chosen by Funcheon Vintage Club for their annual vintage run," a spokesperson for Blackwater SAR said. "We are a voluntary unit and rely completely on the goodwill and generosity of people from the greater Avondhu area."

Over the past 11 years, the vintage club have raised funds for other worthy causes including the Irish Community Air Ambulance, Marymount Hospice, the Irish Heart Foundation and Kildorrery Community Development amongst many others.
