Locals in the Fermoy area cannot pre-purchase a burial plot in the Kilcrumper New Cemetery and there are growing concerns as to the future capacity for the graveyard, due to underground rocky conditions.
One undertaker in the town has described the situation as ‘ridiculous’ and said most people in Fermoy, Kilworth and the surrounding areas, are not aware of a decision taken by Cork County Council in December 2014, to only sell plots to the families of the deceased – rather than to those who wish to purchase a plot before they die.
