
As the new school term nears, issues with school transport is once again leaving families in limbo, due to a lack of seats, concessionary tickets, with children not being given the option of a seat on school buses travelling to their second or third nearest school.
Students in Bartlemy, The Avondhu has been informed, are now without seats on buses travelling to schools in Fermoy, as is also the case with children in Ballynoe.
Some children in Bartlemy, who would have traditionally attended secondary schools in Fermoy, are being redirected towards school buses serving Midleton as the Department of Education has deemed these to be their ‘nearest schools’.
Similarly, some children in Kilworth who would have traditionally attended schools in Fermoy, are being redirected to Mitchelstown as their home is merely metres closer to schools there than Fermoy, a Fermoy MD councillor has said.
