
Footage of the old Loreto chapel in Fermoy circulating online has raised calls for the building to be brought back into use, as many have expressed concern and shared fond memories of the building during their schooling in Fermoy.
Video footage recently emerged of a small group of young men gaining access to and ‘exploring’ what they described as ‘an abandoned convent’. Exploring the main chapel area, several old classrooms, rooms that appear to be used for storage, etc., some areas of the building show noticeable signs of deterioration, with ceilings beginning to fall, panelling on walls being damaged, broken windows, etc.
Some of those who attended school there recalled Mass and choir practice held in the chapel in the 1990s and early 2000s, while many lamented the loss of the ‘music hall’ and shared fond memories, some contacting The Avondhu voicing concern on the now vacant building.
