Met Eireann has issued a status orange rain warning for County Waterford, which will stay in place from 9am this Thursday, February 5th to 9am on Friday, February 6th.  The Irish Metrological Service predict “spells of very heavy rain," high river and tide levels, which is expected to cause localised and river flooding, across the county. It also warns of difficult travel conditions, caused by saturated road surfaces. This comes following flooding and travel disruptions in east Waterford, caused by sustained rainfall last week. The orange warning issued by Met Eireann is an indicator for severe weather conditions that occur infrequently. It has the potential to be dangerous and disruptive. ONGOING UPDATES Waterford City and County Council said it is  “monitoring the situation,” deploying ground crews across the county to engage in clean-up operations throughout the period of the weather warning. The council has advised people to avoid open riverbanks and canal paths, as currents may be stronger than usual. It also advises that people keep communication devices fully charged in case of power outages. Forecasts can be monitored at www.met.ie and through social media updates, across all platforms.
