The Festival of the Galtees Mitchelstown, St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is appealing to sports clubs, musical and dance groups, social clubs, schools and community groups from the town and surrounding parishes to take part in this year's parade.

The committee is also inviting bands, the owners of tractors, cars and bikes to join the parade.

In recent years, the parade has gone from strength to strength and in keeping with tradition, this year’s event will once again run from the Church of Ireland at George’s Street, down Upper and Lower Cork Street, up Baldwin Street, back up George’s Street and onto The Square via King Street.

Again, there will be prizes and trophies in several different categories but if you don’t win a prize, you will still be after availing of a free advertising opportunity!

There will also be two categories for the window display competition. The sections are ‘Best Dressed Window’ and ‘Best Irish Themed Window, and the trophies on offer to the entrants are once again very kindly sponsored by Mitchelstown Business Association, to whom the organising committee are very grateful.

And just in case the publicans feel at a disadvantage, there will be two separate categories – ‘Best Interior Decorations’ and 'Best Dressed Window.’ The best overall display will also win a 7” x 3” column advert sponsored by The Avondhu for their weekly newspaper.

"We need to make this a day to remember. We are preparing all year to make this a wonderful family day. This is a community effort, so, please join in. There is great craic to be had but it’s up to everyone to get involved and to make a day of it. We will be writing to all clubs, groups and businesses but just in case we accidentally leave anyone out, they are invited too," said the Festival of the Galtees, St Patrick's Day parade chairperson, Michael White.

Any group interested in taking part in the parade should contact Michael at 086-3797250 or Billy Roche at 086-0509044.
