Former Taoiseach, Fianna Fáil’s Bertie Ahern, was the keynote speaker at last Sunday’s well attended General Liam Lynch National Commemoration in Kilcrumper.
2023 marks the centenary of the anti-Treaty leader’s death, who, outside of Eamon de Valera and Michael Collins, is viewed as one of the most significant figures in the War of Independence and Civil War periods.
In a well received address, Mr Ahern paid tribute to Liam and the many men and women who gave so much in pursuit of Irish freedom and explained how the hardships endured by Flying Column combatants and members of Cumann na mBan took a huge personal toll on those involved.
