
Hurling plays an important part in the lives of pupils who attend Blackwater Community School in Lismore. Partaking in the elite Harty Cup competition and with a staunch Cork man, Denis Ring, at the helm, the game is in a particularly healthy state at this progressive school.
On Monday, under the guidance of Transition Year students, the school pitch played host to a Future Leaders hurling blitz that proved a great success. Organisers got ‘Munster final’ weather, an enthusiastic crowd, highly competitive games and a glimpse at the strides Scoil Mhuire National School is making, as it plays its part in returning Tallow to the top table of Waterford hurling.
A man who knows more than most about Deise hurling is Jimmy O’Gorman and Blackwater Community School are to be commended for honouring a home grown hero by naming a cup in his honour for the day-long blitz.
