What better way to spend Father’s Day than playing the legendary golf courses of Pebble Beach in California or Adare in Limerick, all in comfort here in Fermoy.
One of the latest advancements in golfing technology, a TrackMan, has come to Fermoy Golf Club and is proving to be a hit with members.
“Locally, it’s a great thing to have. We’re lucky we’re ahead of the posse at the moment,” said Denis Twomey of Fermoy Golf Club.
The former pro shop was converted at the club grounds and now houses the new TrackMan studio, which is a golfing simulator and is one of around just 40 across the country.
Operational since the end of October, the TrackMan offers club members the opportunity to play virtually across 600 golf courses from around the world.
“A lot of people use it to play the courses and there’s different modules on the trackman that they can select to practise, and practise driving, chipping, all that kind of stuff.
“It’s great during the winter. If the golf course is closed, people can come up and practise or play different courses. We’ve had a great reaction to it,” Mr Twomey said.

Ideal for practising and making improvements to your game, the TrackMan provides feedback to players, detailing the speed and distance of their shot, and offering replays.
“There’s a lot of technical information on the TrackMan. We’ve had groups in and we also use it for training and coaching club teams. You can get a professional to come in and get lessons with it,” Mr Twomey added.
Fermoy Golf Club has seen a lot of demand for the TrackMan Studio, particularly in the bad weather, as it provides an indoor space with all the stats needed to up your game.
While not yet open to junior members, it is hoped that the TrackMan will be open to U16s in the future.
Speaking on the social aspect of the new technology, Mr Twomey noted that quite a few pubs and bars are trying to get the TrackMan installed, as they’re proving popular for group bookings.
“It’s been operational since the end of October. We hope to have it paid back for in about a year. It’ll be another asset for the club. Once it’s paid for, it will be a huge benefit for the place,” Mr Twomey said.
At present, the TrackMan is open to bookings online via fermoygolfclub.ie where members can book the TrackMan studio for a minimum of a half hour at just €10.
Competitive prices see charges kept to a minimum for members, meaning locally, members can play courses across the world for an hour priced at just €20.
