Football this weekend

After a ‘mini-break’ from competitive action, the boots and gumshields will be in use again this week as we face Kilshannig at home on Saturday evening (11th June) at 7.30pm.

This is a Cavanagh’s of Fermoy division 3 football league game and a win here would put us in a strong position to make the final.

To date, we’ve recorded one win (v CTR) and a draw (v Killavullen). Our remaining game is against Doneraile.

Fixture

Saturday, 11th June in Araglin at 7.30pm, Cavanagh’s of Fermoy division 3 football league, Araglin v Kilshannig.

Getting back on track following disappointing losses

Back to back defeats (junior B hurling county competition and North Cork junior B football championship) have set us back a bit, however, there’s plenty to play for and the challenge for all concerned is to refocus and knuckle down to some intense training.

With the departure of our football coach, Lar Bracken on UN peacekeeping duties, the big ball side of things is now in the hands of another army man, Sergeant Grattan O’Rourke. In keeping with his profession, Sergeant O’Rourke is organised, efficient and motivated.

Saturday’s game is also important in terms of fine tuning things for a crunch fixture against Whitechurch in the county junior B football championship – this match is fixed for Saturday, 18th June in Killavullen.

Araglin host junior football tie

On Tuesday evening last, we hosted Fermoy and Mitchelstown in the Fermoy Credit Union sponsored North Cork junior A football championship. Played in ideal conditions, Fermoy won out on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-06.

Thanks to Denis Twomey, John O’Brien and Shay Russell for preparing the field and to John Condon and John M. Browne for assisting on the night.

Swallow Inn sponsorship

The club wishes to thank proprietor of The Swallow Inn, Christy Aherne for making a generous contribution to the club recently – this gesture is much appreciated.

Busy weekend locally

It was a busy bank holiday weekend in Araglin with the community council linking up with Araglin National School to host a breakfast morning on Sunday last. The event was very well supported with industrial quantities of sausages, rashers, eggs and beans downed.

Dog show success continues

Dogs rate highly in the affections of locals and the dog show concept has been very well received. The committee are constantly adding and enhancing the event programme and as a result a very large crowd made their way to the community field last Sunday. There was also an evening entertainment dimension and this also ran smoothly.

Great take for dancing lessons

The hall hosted a series of dancing lessons for those seeking to improve their waltzing, quickstep, foxtrot and jiving. There was no shortage of recruits and candidates applied themselves in a very serious manner. Well done to all concerned.

Big into the bingo

Bingo generates a lot of emotions – in Araglin, they’ve been bitten by the bingo bug and patrons don’t seem to be able to get enough of this long established pursuit. Bingo takes place in Araglin Hall every two weeks with the next instalment being Friday 17th June at 8.30pm.

Back from Lourdes

There was strong Araglin representation in the recent Cloyne diocese trip to Lourdes – returning pilgrims seemed all the better for their experience.

Clothes collection continues

The public are reminded that Araglin N.S. Parents’ Association are currently engaged in a clothes collection – garments in good condition are being accepted, further details from association members.

Best of luck

The club wishes the very best to all those who are sitting Junior and Leaving Certificate exams in the days and weeks ahead.
