In just their sixth national Tidy Towns entry, the County Limerick village of Anglesboro were awarded an impressive 292 points, a gain of ten points from 2015.

This places the small village third in their category in the county and builds on their consistent year on year success since achieving the highest new entry in 2011. Since then, the village has increased its score by an impressive 47 points.

Chairperson, Mary Gordon attributes the success to the vibrant community spirit in the area.

“There is a high level of support for Tidy Towns from all the community. There is a great sense of pride in the area and Tidy Towns provides a focus for this,” she commented.

She continued: “We would like to thank all the members of the community who helped out during the year as well as our sponsors SuperValu in Mitchelstown, Ballyhoura Development and Limerick County Council.

“The contribution by the teachers and pupils of Anglesboro NS was given a special mention in the adjudicator’s report for their contribution to the sustainable waste category. It is very encouraging to see the young people getting involved in this way,” she added.

Concluding, Mary said that “the adjudicators were also impressed with the 1916 commemorative garden that was developed in the village”.
