Public houses didn't have to open on Good Friday and some, for a variety of reasons, remained closed.
For those who did throw open their doors, there was a great response with revellers availing of the opportunity to kick start the Bank Holiday weekend celebrations.
It may have taken nearly 100 years to come into line with European norms, however, the change has come and for the publicans and their customers, it's all good.
