The Shanowen Players’ production of The Odd Couple (female version), by Neil Simon and directed by Valerie O’Leary, opened last Friday night at Rathcormac Community Hall.
The smart, audience friendly, quick paced comedic dialogue, audience and kooky characters and hilarious plot, derived much laughter from the appreciative audiences over the 3 nights. They brought the cast along with them!
The fundamental incompatibility between Olive and Florence as the best friends who make the worst roommates, was portrayed brilliantly by Marie Gubbins and Catriona Grade, and the arrival of Manolo and Jesus, the 2 lusty Spanish brothers for the date which backfired disastrously, went down a treat with the audiences, played by Donal O’Leary and John Power.
The four Trivial Pursuit loving friends giving a first wives club vibe with great characterisation were also enjoyed, particularly when Florence passes out in the bathroom and chaos ensued.
Carol-Marie Dooley, Siobhain Buckley, Betty Buckley and Mags O’Connor had us singing ‘Big girls don’t Cry’ with them!
All this would not have been possible without the wonderful crew behind the scenes who transformed each scene on a set designed by Oliver McCarthy.
Tickets are selling very fast for this weekend, so don’t miss this entertaining play Sat/Sun 9th and 10th at 8.15.
