The children of Scoil an Athar Tadhg Carraig na bhFear launched their third charity CD on Friday. Project directors Joe Hanafin and Philip O’Brien have chosen the Build4Life Cystic Fibrosis Charity as beneficiaries of this years recording.

Mr Hanafin was fear an tí for the occasion and explained the work of Build4Life. He said the organisation was completely voluntary and hoped to provide individual accommodation at CUH for the children of Cork and Kerry. The charity has already provided similar facilities for adults.

Joe went on and spoke of the very high number of CF patients in the Cork/Kerry area - almost half the national number. Family and friends of CF patients under the direction of Castleisland man, Joe Brown, set up the charity. Joe thanked school staff Tara Lyons and Noel Collins along with Mick Collins and past pupil Rory McCarthy who provided musical complement.

The staff and children also gave a huge bualadh bos for Seán Ó Sé who is guest artist on the recording. Singing with Seán was a wonderful experience for the children.

Local lady Mrs Edele Kelleher spoke on behalf of the Build4Life organisation and from a personal perspective told the children and large gathering of parents how important having their own room was for the cystic fibrosis children. She expressed her gratitude to all the staff and especially the children on the success of the CD.

School principal Dermot O’Driscoll welcomed special guest Conor Counihan and thanked him for taking the time out of his busy schedule to launch the Build4Life DC. Mr Counihan complimented the children on the excellent quality of their production.

Mr Counihan told the children that in time to come they could visit CUH and see the building, which they are helping provide. He stated how important it was to help other children and make their trips to hospital less stressful for them.

The CD will now be offered for sale through the school office, in the local Mace supermarket and at a range of events through out the county.
