The Office of Public Works (OPW) has committed €500,000 in funding towards the Fermoy weir remediation and fish bypass project, however, significant costs remain, as it was revealed this week that the total estimated project cost now stands in the region of €8-€10 million.
Cost estimates for the project in July 2025, stood at €5.5 million according to council management, however, a recalculation and update given at Monday’s meeting of the Northern Divisional Committee, sees the project now coming in significantly over the initial costing, at an estimated €8-€10 million.
Niall Healy, Cork County Council Assistant Chief Executive (North), confirmed that the council had, on Friday, received correspondence from the OPW outlining that it would ‘part fund’ the scheme.
