Fermoy man, Dave ‘Daithí’ Sexton, has been named the European Gents Pitch & Putt Strokeplay champion, having laid claim to the prestigious title after competing at the Sud Course in La Rochelle, France.
The Fermoy Pitch and Putt Club member pulled out all the stops, facing France’s Alexandre Decorde in a sudden death playoff, after both men were level after playing 54 holes. Sexton pitched an 81m shot to three feet in sudden death, and sank the downhill putt for birdie, securing the championship title on foreign soil. At the end, just one shot divided the two men, with Sexton’s final score coming in at an impressive 18 under par.
