Breeda Horgan née Gowen,a native of Ballyhindon outside of Fermoy, has been announced as this year’s overall winner of the Paddy Fitzgerald Awards 2024 in a ceremony on Sunday evening. Ms Horganjoined nominees from across the county, including Glenbrohane’s Morgan Murphy, the Limerick nominee and the Tipperary South nominee, Cahir’s Matt Quinlan, at the Dunraven Arms in Adare.

Speaking with The Avondhu earlier this week, Ms Horgan said she was pleased and surprised, as well as ‘deeply honoured’ with the award; she was also recently recognised with the IFA Honorary Life Membership Award, an accolade for which she is ‘very privileged’.

Her daughter, Mirinda, said the occasion was a very special one for both the family and the North Cork IFA at large; recognition was also paid to Pat O’Keeffe, the IFA Cork North County Chair who nominated Ms Horgan for the award.
