Applications have this week opened for a programme which is set to provide targeted funding to community groups to deliver community climate action, through a competitive application process.

The Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) Strand 1, Call 2, will run for a period of 8 weeks, having opened on Tuesday (28th). CCAP, in partnership with Cork County Council, aims to support and empower communities to shape and build low carbon, sustainable communities to contribute to national climate and energy targets.

Strand 1, Call 2 of the CCAP will provide funding to community organisations in Cork county to deliver a local climate action project or initiative, and eligible community organisations can apply for up to 100% funding across three categories – small scale projects (up to €20,000); medium (€20,000 to €50,000) and large scale projects (€51,000 to €100,000).

Proposed projects should address one or more of the following five themes: community energy; travel; food and waste; shopping and recycling, and local climate and environmental action.

The Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) forms an important aspect of Cork County Council’s approach to local community climate action and aims to support the objectives and actions of the Council’s Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.

IN-PERSON CLINICS

A total of eight in-person project clinics will be hosted by Cork County Council to provide an opportunity for prospective applicants to discuss the CCAP and their proposed project on a one-to-one basis at the following locations (Macroom and Carrigaline were held earlier this week):

This Thursday, 30th October (11am – 1pm) will see Mallow Library host a clinic, with the remaining five next week, as follows: Midleton Library on Tuesday, 4th November (3pm-5pm); Skibbereen Library on Wednesday, 5th November (11am-1pm); Bandon Library on Wednesday, 5th November (3pm-5pm); Fermoy Library on Thursday, 6th November (11am-1pm) and at Cobh Library on Thursday, 6th November (3pm-5pm).

DECEMBER 23RD CLOSING DATE

Noting that Cork County Council (CCC) has, once again, been allocated €1.24 million by the Department of Climate, Energy & the Environment to deliver on the second call of the CCAP, Moira Murrell, chief executive CCC, has ‘strongly encouraged’ local community groups to consider making an application in advance of the deadline.

Applicants are required to ensure that their project has all the required planning and regulatory permissions and consents in place prior to the submission of their application. Further details regarding eligibility, requirements and the application process are available on Cork County Council’s website.

Closing date for applications is Tuesday, 23rd December and applications can be made through YourCouncil.ie.
