Wheelyboat ‘devastated’ by crumbling weir – impact felt across the town

An estimated costing of €5.5 million has been announced to rebuild and restore Fermoy weir and construct a new fish bypass in the town. 

Over the years, Fermoy has witnessed the impact of the crumbling weir, not alone on other infrastructure in the town, but on the people, groups and organisations that use the river and have done so for many years. 

Christopher O’Donovan, better known to many as ‘Kipper the Skipper’ and operator of Wheely Boar on the river, said that the broken weir has once again ‘devastated’ the facility this year.
