Avondhu Tourism’s invitation to Simon Wall to address a public meeting in the Palace Theatre, Ashe Quay in Fermoy next week has generated considerable interest. It seems the public meeting has raised an awareness among many disparate groups that they are not alone in wanting a better future for Fermoy.

The Westport town architect will give a talk on his experience there, beginning at 11am. Westport was named best small town in Ireland to live in, in a competition run by the Irish Times. The organisers felt Fermoy could benefit from the architect's experience.

Speaking to The Avondhu, Ian Fleming, chairman of Avondhu Tourism said, “We have invited as many community groups that we are aware of to this meeting. If we have forgotten anybody, we are sorry, it was not intentional, but they will be most welcome to come along. We want to be as inclusive as possible. We in AT want to make Fermoy and the surrounding area as an attractive a place as possible to visit and live. We want to make people aware of the wonderful place the Avondhu is, with its rich heritage, beautiful scenery, wonderful activities, friendly communities, etc. If we can market the attractiveness of the area, jobs will flow. People will set up small enterprises to support tourism and tourism will grow.”

All are welcome. For more details see www.avondhutourism.ie or find them on Facebook.
