There was much activity in and around Glenville on Wednesday morning as Cork North Divisional Search Team, Uniformed Gardaí and Detectives from Fermoy District carried out searches under warrant in the area.

It is understood that the raid took place at an area just outside the village and armed gardaí and checkpoints were in place while the raid was ongoing. The gardai seized a large quantity of weapons, tools and fuel as well as a large amount of suspected stolen property and vehicles.

According to a local source, gardaí were seen running through fields close to the area this morning in the planned raid which was titled Operation Thor.

In light of the Valentines Day raid the following verse was posted on the Garda Síochána Southern Region Facebook page:

"Roses are red,
Crime is abhorrent,
If you're stashing weapons,
We'll get a warrant."
