A rising young golfing star has set her sights on a glittering professional career in the United States. 16-year-old Valerie Clancy, from Mitchelstown, has already won Munster and All-Ireland titles but wants to make a name for herself across the Atlantic.
An established member of the Irish Girls team, the Presentation Secondary School student plays off a handicap of +1 and first represented her country at the age of just 14.
Speaking to The Avondhu this week, Valerie said she is in negotiations with colleges in the USA.
“I have been speaking to potential colleges in America since the beginning of the month. I have set my sights on becoming a professional player and America offers the best opportunities for young players,” said Valerie.
