Castletownroche man Mark Condren clearly has an eye for a captivating shot, as he has been announced as the AIB Press Photographer of the Year for an unprecedented sixth time.
He won praise from the judges for his portfolio of images of the past year’s events, including 12 images displaying a breadth of experiences from Ukraine, to the Ploughing Championships, to children at the funeral of murdered Ashling Murphy.
As well as taking the overall prize, Mr Condren was awarded first prize in the ‘Portraits’ category for his image of a woman in an International Displaced Persons camp in Mogadishu, Somalia.
The country was on the brink of famine after four rainy seasons in a row have failed – a climatic event not seen for 40 years – and the woman had walked for four days when her crops failed and animals died.
