Fermoy community encouraged to Bounce for Benny

Benny de Luca, a familiar face around Fermoy and surrounds, pictured with his daughters Daniela, Francesca, Elisa and Teresa, who are raising funds to help make the necessary adjustments following Benny's diagnosis with MND.

Fermoy and surrounds are asked the get their dancing shoes on as preparations are well underway for ‘Bounce for Benny’ a fundraising Zumbathon in aid of well-known former Fermoy local, Bernardo de Luca.

In late August of 2022, after retiring in May, Benny was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a condition affecting the brain and nerves that causes weakness and worsens over time.

According to Teresa Napier, Benny’s daughter, the diagnosis came as a ‘massive shock’ to the family.

“He is deteriorating fast. He’s now on a breathing machine. His new bed came in last week …” Teresa said.
