Cork County Council have confirmed that they have issued a warning letter in response to alleged unauthorised development at Abbeyville House in Fermoy. The works, which were noticed by members of the public and elected members, have led to a number of concerns, queries and allegations from members of the public in the last fortnight, with a number of people contacting The Avondhu directly to express fears for the architecture of the protected structure.
Abbeyville House was built around 1850, and operated as a popular B&B in the town. The building last changed hands on October 17th this year, when according to the Property Price Register it sold for €925,000, having been on the market for some time.
It has been observed that a wooden fence, approximately two metres tall, has been erected on the property to define it from the neighbouring building of similar architectural style.
