Celtic U12s were defeated narrowly in the cup semi-final by Castlebridge last Thursday in Pound Lane, with the red hot favourites from East Cork eventually coming out on top 3-1.

Going into this game Celtic were very much the underdogs having fallen to a heavy 8-2 defeat earlier in the season by the same team. This game however proved just how much the lads have improved sine the start of the season, with the result in doubt until very late in the game.

Celtic started the brighter and had a few half chances with Dean Jordan, Mark Carey and Johnny Tobin Allen to the fore. Castlebridge however were first to score when a mistake in midfield saw them break the offside trap to slot past Wheeler in goal. Celtic changed tactics at this stage and decided to man mark the powerful Kearney with Mark Carey taking on the responsibility. This gave Celtic more control and it was from a break in midfield that saw Mark Carey equalise as the half-time whistle sounded. Celtic were right in the tie and causing the away team plenty of problems.

The second half start was important but Celtic were caught napping and conceded a game changing goal, that in reality they never recovered from. The lads continued to push for the equaliser and with time ticking out were caught on the break.

A great display from the lads against all the odds but a display they can be very proud. Well done lads and see you all next season.

JOHN GILES WALK

The annual John Giles Walk was held in Lismore on Sunday last with John Giles himself in attendance. All U11 league winners were expected to attend to be presented with their medals, etc by John Giles but unfortunately a host of players were unable to attend on the day, leaving just a few lucky players to meet the man himself and have some pictures taken.

Mr. Giles himself was very accommodating on day standing in for endless photos with the lads and also signing plenty of copies of his recent autobiography. A huge crowd in attendance and the day and a big thank you to the parents and kids who attended the walk. It was well worth the trip to meet a living Irish football legend.
