The Irish Wheelchair Association – Sport (IWA-Sport) is excited to announce that the Transition Year Wheelchair Basketball Regional Championships are returning and schools can now register their teams.

Always an exciting event in IWA-Sport’s calendar, the championships will take place at Neptune’s Stadium, Cork on Tuesday, 9th April. Schools across the province are invited to register as many teams as they like by heading to the IWA-Sport website to sign up. Schools are also encouraged to bring as many spectators as possible to cheer their schools on!

On the day, teams will be given a demonstration of how wheelchair basketball is played, before competing for their regional championship.

The winning team will receive a trophy and then a half day wheelchair basketball event at their school on a later date, including a students versus teachers game along with other fun activities led by IWA-Sport. Speaking on the event, IWA-Sport National Operations Manager Paul Ryan said: “It’s one of the most fun days on the IWA-Sport calendar and it gives students and teachers a chance to get involved in friendly competition while learning about disability, Inclusion, wheelchair basketball and para sport”.

The championships will also take place in Gormanston College, Meath on Tuesday, 16th April.

Registration is now open and schools are encouraged to register their teams and join IWA-Sport in preparing for the event by tagging them on social media and use the hashtag #RollWithUs and #TYWCB2024.
