Turf-house opening McCarthy’s first official engagement as a TD

WHAT A MOMENT - John Arnold and newly elected TD, Noel McCarthy, pictured cutting the ribbon on the Turf-House just prior to Christmas.

For his first official engagement as a Teachta Dala, Fermoy’s Noel McCarthy did not stray far, but rather, returned to Bartlemy where he officially opened the Arnold’s new Turf-House.

Just before Christmas, the new TD was invited by Bartlemy’s John Arnold, to cut the ribbon on the important new structure, which although has not been used to house turf since the 1950s, is still fondly dubbed the ‘Turf-House’ by the family.

Speaking with The Avondhu, Deputy McCarthy said it was a welcome return to Bartlemy for him, having lived there some years ago, adding that the event was ‘true grassroots politics’.

“It’s really my first official engagement. It was something I really enjoyed doing because I’ve known John a long time and he’s a great character. It’s typical John and it was a good day for Bartlemy.” Deputy McCarthy said.
