Water samples taken from the River Blackwater where a number of cars were recently discovered dumped bankside, have been tested and came back ‘clear’, according to Waterford City and County Council (WCCC).

A spokesperson for the Council told The Avondhu that the water samples ‘didn’t show any ongoing pollution associated with the vehicles’.

The shock discovery of a several cars in the River Blackwater was made last month by Irish Examiner journalist, Dan MacCarthy, who had been kayaking on the river at the time near Dromana Bridge, outside Cappoquin.

The topic was subsequently raised at the Dungarvan Lismore District meeting by local councillor, John Pratt, who described the issue as ‘very worrying’ …
