The idea of developing a cycling track on the old Fermoy to Mitchelstown Road R639 was last discussed in October 2018 when councillors Noel McCarthy and Kay Dawson brought forward a joint motion to Fermoy Municipal District Meeting.
It was agreed at that time that avenues of funding would be investigated and that the project would 'go to design stage regardless'.
A request for an update on the progress was made at the February meeting held in Fermoy Town Hall on Tuesday last and Mary Hayes, SEO for Cork County Council reminded members that the costings have been done with an estimate of €200,000 and so now it needs to be looked at in more detail.
“We have looked at it and our senior engineer has come up with costings and we’ll have to look at it in more detail…”
