
‘Indecision’ from the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment regarding measures for the 2026 fishing season on the Blackwater River, has led to concern among local fisheries.
The fishing season on the Blackwater River normally opens on February 1st, however, regulations have yet to be issued regarding the upcoming season. Owner of the Upper Bridgetown Salmon Fishery, Conor Arnold, explained that Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) normally make recommendations to the Minister of Climate, Energy and the Environment, with special responsibility for Fisheries (Timmy Dooley TD) before November 20th, which then go to public consultation, and on December 20th, the regulations and measures for the upcoming season would be published.
