Suaimhneas sna Coillte in Glengarra

Suil Eile Walkers back at Mountain Lodge during last year's event.

Suaimhneas sna Coillte is a unique weekend-long series of events set in the idyllic surroundings of Glengarra Mountain Lodge in Glengarra wood.

This festival of peace and harmony amongst those natural habitats that lie on our doorstep encourages us to appreciate the presence of the lodge in the forest by bridging the use of the forest and Mountain Lodge together.

Suaimhneas sna Coillte at Glengarra Mountain Lodge is hosted by Mountain Lodge Restoration Committee anchored by Burncourt Community Council and is supported by Festival and Events Grant Tipperary County Council, Creative Ireland and hosted as part of National Heritage Week.

Expanding on the success of the inaugural festival in 2021, the 2022 festival will run over three days.

OÍCHE SAMHRAIDH (SUMMER NIGHT)

Oíche Samhraidh [Summer Night] (Friday, 19th August) is a new initiative for the 2022 festival which aims to expand the creative engagement of the community with a newly curated multi-media arts installation.

Launching the festival on Friday, 19th August, this event begins at sunset at Glengarra Mountain Lodge with a meet and greet atmosphere to include refreshments accompanied by a 45-minute live music set. Following sunset, a 4km guided sensory walk at dusk will travel via three audio-visual installations in the forest. A second walk will take place at moonlight. These immersive installations are curated by local arts producer, Aisling Fitzgerald and Tipperary born light and sound artist Joey Maguire

‘Riverside’ – an eight speaker audio experience which captures audio recordings of the forest  where the live sounds and sights of the forest blend with the soundscape.

‘Between Bridges’ – a newly curated audio-based commission incorporating the work of a local poet with accompanying projection and light installation

‘Fairy Doors at Night’ – a magical and restorative meditative audio trail through the final moments of the dusk and moonlight walks.

Cost is €25 including shuttle bus, walk, music & refreshments. This event will run twice 8pm-10.15pm and 9.30pm-11.45pm. A shuttle bus to transport walkers from carpark to Glengarra Lodge will run in advance of both walks.
