In a week that he celebrates a significant birthday, Danny Higgins is also retiring from his role as FAS supervisor in Fermoy – a position he’s held for 22 years.

The contribution of FAS to clubs in Fermoy is immense and during his tenure, Danny oversaw teams of operatives who helped maintain Fermoy Soccer Club, Fermoy GAA, Fermoy Pitch & Putt Club, Fermoy Rowing Club and Fermoy Rugby Club. FAS also have responsibility for the upkeep of Castlehyde graveyard.

On Thursday evening last following their club lotto, officers and members of Fermoy Soccer Club made a special presentation to Danny. Speaking on behalf of those present, Billy Howard said Danny and FAS had been good friends to the club over the years; their maintenance work was of a very high order and they took pride in making sure the pitches were in excellent condition.

Before making a presentation, he thanked Danny for all his help and concluded his remarks by wishing the Strawhall man, a long and happy retirement.

Responding, Danny said he held the soccer club in the highest esteem. He went on on to say that he always enjoyed a good working relationship with club officers. “The presentation is much appreciated and means a lot,” Danny said.
