- Corrections possible until 25 November -

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sean Sherlock, has urged residents in North Cork to check that their name and details are corrected on the draft electoral registers for the upcoming referendums next year.

“There are a number of votes taking place next year under plans by the Government to hold referendums on several topics,” said Minister Sherlock.

“Significantly, many people came to my office in the immediate run up to the recent local elections and in the aftermath to check if they were registered and found that they had not been. It is a vital duty for every citizen to vote and the first step is to ensure that the correct information is logged with the franchise office in Cork County Council. If you are unsure, please contact my office and I can check your status and rectify mistakes before the deadline of November 25th.”

In order to vote, a person must be 18 years on or before the 15th February, 2015. A person must be ordinarily resident in an area on the 1st September, 2014. If a claim is made to have a name deleted of a person who is resident on the 1st September, the present address should be given.

Students vote from their home address unless they request otherwise. Student nurses have now the choice of being registered at their parents' home or at the nurses' home or hospital.

A person is not deemed to have given up ordinary residence if he intends to resume residence within eighteen months.
