Bride Rovers-star Katie Quirke has been named on the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division One Team of the Season. Quirke is joined by fellow Corkonians Doheny’s Melissa Duggan, Dara Kiniry, Aoife Healy and Allihies’ Áine Terry O’Sullivan. Three players from Waterford, Emma Murray, Kellyann Hogan and Bríd McMaugh, were also named on the team.

A star player for her local club, Bride Rovers in Rathcormac, Quirke must be getting used to success. Last year she was named March winner of Cork’s 96FM and C103 Cork Sports Star award for her role in Cork’s league campaign where they gained promotion to Division One. As Irene Hogan, chairperson for Bride Rovers Ladies notes, ‘she’s been stacking up personal accolades as well as team ones’ for some time now.

In 2024 she won her first TG4 LGFA All-Star award. This was a particularly proud moment for Bride Rovers, as Quirke was the first local ladies footballer to receive such a high-status award. Local hurler Brian Murphy won an All-Star in 2006 and the club erected a plaque in the clubhouse to recognise both players’ outstanding achievements.
