Up to 50 residents from Shanballymore protested on Wednesday outside the Daffodil Care Services home – which will house children from 12 to 18 years of age, at Carrigaunroe, Shanballymore, Mallow – in opposition to the care service locating to the area.
According to Shanballymore Concerned Residents Group chairman, Billy Gallagher, the protest was in response to the ‘lack of information’ and the ‘clear disregard for the impact on the local residents and on the teenagers (who will live at the home) shown by director of services of Daffodil Care Services, Carlos Kelly’, after he attended a meeting in Shanballymore Community Centre on Tuesday, August 8.
In a statement released by the Shanballymore Concerned Residents group, concerned neighbours became aware of the care home operating in the village, by accident, when they noticed up to 15 cars parked at the private residence in July.
After further investigation, the owner of the residence informed locals that the house was leased to Daffodil Care Services.
