Galbally-based Roy Galvin is seeking for Bus Éireann staff to be ‘sufficiently trained’ after an incident in which he and his husband were questioned after attempting to use Mr Galvin’s free travel pass on a bus from Mitchelstown to Cork city.

Mr Galvin boarded the bus in Mitchelstown in early June with his husband Tom; in most cases a free travel pass allows a spouse, civil partner or cohabitant to travel alongside the holder.

“I got on the bus with my husband, put the card down, and the driver said, ‘Really, you should only use that card with your spouse’”, says Roy.
