
A great one to win – a hard one on Castlelyons, who had victory in their sights, but couldn’t close the deal.
A lot of things happen during the course of a hurling match, some of them small, others, hugely significant. With Bride Rovers wavering in the final quarter of Saturday’s Co-op SuperStores Cork SAHC final replay, Patrick ‘Paddy’ O’Flynn, got the biggest break of his hurling career, when a speculative ball deceived forwards, defenders and goal keeper to nestle in the Castlelyons’ net. For Bride Rovers, it was a lifeline they grabbed without hesitation, going on to win by a single point, on a scoreline of 2-15 to 2-14.
Reviewing any game, you could focus in on frees that are given and not given. We’re told that things even themselves out in the end, but this is no consolation to Castlelyons, whose man, Leon Doocey, who played very well, was clearly fouled in the dying stages of this epic contest, but didn’t get the decision. Fine margins.
