Permission has been granted in Shanballymore to build four houses on the main street of the village, and to renovate the former pub (O’Farrell’s) as a fifth house.

The original planning application sought permission to demolish all parts of the building, the single-storey former pub as well as the attached two-storey residential dwelling.

However, during the process these plans were revised so that the developer will now ‘maximise’ how much of the old bar they can keep, and it will be ‘sympathetically restored’ to its original character, insofar as is practical. The former bar, built pre-1950s, has a thatched roof, which lies underneath a corrugated metal roof. The two-storey house next door, which was built in the early 1900s, is to come down and four residences put in its stead.
