Foul play has been ruled out in the death of a Polish man whose body was found in Rathcormac on Monday morning.

A postmortem was completed on Tuesday, with investigators saying they are now treating the death of the man in his 40s as a tragic accident. Gardaí will now prepare a file for an inquest in the Coroner’s Court.

The man’s body was discovered at the entrance to the basement of an apartment in the Manor Mills estate at 11am on Monday. It is understood the man had previously resided in Fermoy and recently moved to Rathcormac.

He suffered head and other injuries consistent with a fall. It is believed that the man, who had been out socialising at the weekend, may have died after falling 20 feet from an upstairs window. The man was found by two housemates.

Acting deputy state pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan ruled out foul play, while gardaí are awaiting the results of a toxicology test.

The name of the deceased will not be released until gardaí have informed his next-of-kin in Poland of his death.
