Cork County Council is expected to make a decision by next week as to whether two modular padel courts can be installed at Lidl on Courthouse Road in Fermoy, following an extensive process centred on the suitability and safety of the site.

The application by Padel Sports 100 Ltd, first lodged back in January, covers two courts with artificial playing surfaces, a four-metre perimeter, six-metre integrated LED lighting and other associated works.

In its most recent submission, the applicant specified that each court would provide 1,000 hours of free use annually, amounting to 2,000 hours across the two spaces.
