Shelly McAteer and her team were in fundraising mode last weekend as they hosted a 1,000km spinathon in aid of Cystic Fibrosis.

The proprietor of Max Fitness (Rathcormac) and facebook heroine, used all her networking skills to ’round up’ 45 spinners for this marathon event. There was also the proviso that participants had to spin in festive dress.

Shelly, despite her maternal condition, was on site well in advance of last Saturday’s 8.30am ‘spin off’ launch and from there until lunchtime, it was head down and pedal like the devil.

This endurance test was completed in a little over 4 hours with a great crowd in attendance for the last couple of kilometres.

Shelly and her business partner Dave, lost no time in declaring the event a fantastic success – something, no one could argue with. An effective showcase for this popular fitness centre and a feel-good event for everyone taking part, the spinathon proved to be a lucrative moneyspinner for Cystic Fibrosis.

Congratulating those involved, Shelly said the fundraiser’s success was down to a great team effort.

“Once word went out about the spinathon, there was a fantastic reaction and that continued right until the very end, I’m very proud of everyone who gave up their time to take part, it was a wonderful team effort,” she said.
